Report: Phillies could join Asdrubal Cabrera market
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

The Phillies could become involved in the market for free-agent infielder Asdrubal Cabrera, ESPN.com reports.

The Phillies traded their longtime starter at shortstop to the Dodgers this offseason and will be looking to fill that hole in the infield. However, the team will have to shed some additional payroll in order to make a run at the infielder, according to the report. Cabrera hit .241/.307/.387 with 14 home runs, 61 RBI and 10 stolen bases in 553 at-bats between Cleveland and Washington in 2014.

Report: Nationals have checked in on Asdrubal Cabrera
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com

The Nationals are one of several teams to have checked in on second baseman Asdrubal Cabrera, according to The Washington Post

Cabrera spent the second half of 2014 in Washington, and has expressed a desire to remain with the club. The Nationals are said to be in pursuit of a middle infielder. Shortstop Ian Desmond is in the final year of his contract, and it's unclear if the team wants to go with Danny Espinosa at second. The 29-year-old Cabrera hit .241/.307/.387 over 553 at-bats last year.

Nationals 2B Asdrubal Cabrera: I want to stay in Washington
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com

Nationals second baseman and soon-to-be free agent Asdrubal Cabrera is hoping to stick around in the nation's capital.

"I really enjoy it to play with this team," he told the Washington Post. "Great guys. Good front office. I was really happy to be here and in this moment with the team."

Cabrera was traded from Cleveland to Washington with just two months remaining on his contract and was moved from shortstop to second. He could receive strong consideration in a thin free agent class for shortstops headlined by Hanley Ramirez and Jed Lowrie. He also proved steady at second base, though he has little range at either middle infield position. And the Yankees will be seeking a new shortstop to replace retired Derek Jeter.

The presence of Ian Desmond would prevent Cabrera from moving back to short if he remains with the Nationals.

Nationals' Matt Williams, Asdrubal Cabrera get tossed in Game 2
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com

Nationals manager Matt Williams and infielder Asdrubal Cabrera were both ejected in Game 2 of the NLDS against the Giants.

Cabrera got ejected for arguing a strike 3 call by home plate umpire Vic Carapazza in the 10th inning. Williams argued the call and was ejected immediately after. Cabrera doubled in the third inning and scored the only run of the night for the Nationals thus far. He has two hits in his first eight postseason at-bats.
