Chris Carr announces retirement

Cornerback Chris Carr announced his retirement from the NFL at age 30. Carr played for the Ravens, Raiders, Titans, Chargers and Saints and is Oakland's all-time leader in kickoff return yardage.

Saints waive Garrett Hartley, Chris Carr

The Saints waived kicker Garrett Hartley and cornerback Chris Carr, reports the New Orleans Times-Picayune. Hartley missed a pair of field goals Week 15 at St. Louis. He made 22 of 30 (73.3 percent) this season, good for 30th in the NFL.

The Saints' lengthy list of injured defenders did not turn into a lengthy list of inactive defenders in Week 12, as six of seven players were able to take the field Thursday against the Falcons.

Defensive backs Kenny Vaccaro (concussion), Rod Sweeting (hip) and Chris Carr (hip, back hamstring) were all able to play through injuries, as was linebacker Curtis Lofton (hamstring, ankle) and defensive linemen Cameron Jordan (ankle) and Akiem Hicks (back).
