Giambi homers amidst long slump: Oakland 1B Jason Giambi homered on Wednesday against the Tigers to break out of a slump. Giambi's drive in the sixth off Justin Verlander was home run No. 407, tying him with Duke Snider for 43rd place. Giambi, who has been dealing with sore legs and entered the game with an American League-low .197 batting average, was in a 2 for 28 stretch before the homer after striking out in his first two at-bats. He finished 1 for 3 and has his average up to .199.

Giambi does have 11 homers on the season with 40 RBI so it hasn't been completely awful for him in Oakland. Still, having the worst average in the AL is a little embarrassing. Until that picks up, Giambi should only be used as a low-end mixed-league starter.
