World Series Game 7 history

There is nothing in sports quite like the drama of a Game 7 of the World Series. Here is a look at what has transpired in past Game 7s in World Series play (x-decided on last swing of game; y-decided in top of last inning):

1912 x-Boston Red Sox 3, NY Giants 2 (10 inn.) There was a tie game in the series forcing a Game 8. The Red Sox score two runs in the bottom of the tenth to win it.
1924 x-Washington 4, NY Giants 3 (12 inn.) Earl McNeely's bad-hop single over third baseman Fred Lindstrom's head wins it in the 12th inning.
1925 Pittsburgh 9, Washington 7 Walter Johnson takes a beating as the Senators are unable to defend their title.
1926 St. Louis 3, NY Yankees 2 Pete Alexander comes in for the Cards after winning Game 6, striking out Tony Lazzeri with the bases loaded and two outs.
1931 y-St. Louis 4, Philadelphia Athletics 2 After winning his previous two starts, Cardinals' Bill Hallahan comes in to record the final out in Game 7 with the tying run on base.
1934 St. Louis 11, Detroit 0 Dizzy Dean throws a shutout, giving up only six hits.
1940 y-Cincinnati 2, Detroit 1 (10 inn.) Bobo Newsom, who won two games in the series, loses Game 7 after his visiting dad died of a heart attack the night before Game 5.
1945 Detroit 9, Chicago Cubs 3 Detroit jumps on the board five times in the first inning and Hal Newhouser picks up the win.
1946 St. Louis 4, Boston Red Sox 3 Enos Slaughter scores from first on a Harry Walker double to break the tie in the eighth inning.
1947 NY Yankees 5, Brooklyn 2 Bill Bevens and Joe Page come out of the bullpen to hold the Dodgers to two runs.
1952 y-NY Yankees 4, Brooklyn 2 Mickey Mantle smashes a home run over the right field scoreboard in the sixth inning to put the Yankees in front 3-2.
1955 Brooklyn 2, NY Yankees 0 The Dodgers finally get by the Yankees as Johnny Podres shuts out the Bronx Bombers.
1956 NY Yankees 9, Brooklyn 0 Yogi Berra hits a two-run homer in the first and third innings and Johnny Kucks tosses a three-hitter in a rout.
1957 Milwaukee 5, NY Yankees 0 Lew Burdette tosses his third complete-game win of the Series.
1958 NY Yankees 6, Milwaukee 2 Down 3-1 in the Series, the Yankees rebound to take the next three as Bob Turley picks up the win.
1960 x-Pittsburgh 10, NY Yankees 9 Bill Mazeroski belts a pitch off Ralph Terry to left to become the only player to end Game 7 of the World Series with a home run.
1962 NY Yankees 1, San Francisco 0 With Willie Mays at second and Matty Alou on third with two outs in the ninth, Willie McCovey hits a line drive right to second baseman Bobby Richardson to end the game.
1964 St. Louis 7, NY Yankees 5 Bob Gibson records the victory to seal it for the Cardinals.
1965 Los Angeles 2, Minnesota 0 Sandy Koufax stifles Minnesota, giving up three hits and striking out ten.
1967 St. Louis 7, Boston 2 The Cards coast on Bob Gibson's third win in the Series, a three-hitter.
1968 Detroit 4, St. Louis 1 Mickey Lolich outduels Bob Gibson as the Tigers come back from a 3-1 Series deficit.
1971 Pittsburgh 2, Baltimore 1 Steve Blass tames the Oriole bats for his second win of the Series.
1972 Oakland 3, Cincinnati 2 Rollie Finger comes in to record the save, making it the sixth game in the Series decided by one run.
1973 Oakland 5, NY Mets 2 Darold Knowles comes in for the save, setting a record by appearing in all seven games.
1975 y-Cincinnati 4, Boston 3 A Joe Morgan bloop hit in the top of the ninth wins it for the Reds in one of the most exciting Series in recent history.
1979 Pittsburgh 4, Baltimore 1 Willie Stargell's two-run homer in the sixth inning puts the Pirates in front for good.
1982 St. Louis 6, Milwaukee 3 The Cardinals put three runs on the board in the sixth for a 4-3 lead and don't look back.
1985 Kansas City 11, St. Louis 0 Bret Saberhagen pitches a five-hitter to complete a 3-1 Series comeback.
1986 NY Mets 8, Boston 5 After participating in the Game 6 heroics, Series MVP Ray Knight gives the Mets their first lead in the seventh inning with a home run.
1987 Minnesota 4, St. Louis 2 MVP Frank Viola picks up the victory as each team wins at home in all seven games in a Series first.
1991 x-Minnesota 1, Atlanta 0 (10 inn.) Jack Morris goes 10-shutout innings for the victory as Gene Larkin drives in Dan Gladden with a one-out single.
1997 x-Florida 3, Cleveland 2 (11 inn.) The upstart Marlins stifle the Indians as Edgar Renteria's RBI single in the 11th brings in the winning run. The Indians return to snowy Cleveland with their 49-year World Series drought intact.
2001 Arizona 3, NY Yankees 2 Luis Gonzalez hit an RBI single to cap a two-run rally off Mariano Rivera in the bottom of the ninth.
2002 Anaheim 4, San Francisco 1 Garret Anderson hit a three-run double and three rookie pitchers contributed to help the Angels win their first title in team history.
