MILWAUKEE -- San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy was ejected from Wednesday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers when he argued after first base umpire Brian Knight hesitated on a call in the sixth inning.
The ejection capped a five-run inning in which the Giants closed to 6-5 on Bengie Molina's grand slam and an unusual sequence that included a pinch-hit appearance by Barry Bonds.
After Molina's slam, Nate Schierholtz and Kevin Frandsen singled and, with one out, Bonds batted for reliever Steve Kline. Bonds grounded a 2-2 pitch from Brian Shouse into right field, where second baseman Rickie Weeks fielded it. Weeks' throw wasn't close to first baseman Prince Fielder, and Schierholtz scored on the two-base error. Frandsen also tried to score but was tagged out by Shouse, who appeared to be injured on the play.
With Bonds on second, Shouse stayed in and got Dave Roberts to hit a bouncing ball up the middle. Shortstop Craig Counsell fielded it after crossing second base and made a weak throw to Fielder. Knight initially appeared to begin signaling safe, then called Roberts out.
Bochy came out of the dugout and threw his cap on the ground. After a short conversation, Bochy was ejected for the second time this season.
