Giants C Rodriguez leaves game with heat illness

Presented by Epson

CHICAGO -- San Francisco Giants catcher Guillermo Rodriguez left Wednesday's 12-1 loss against the Chicago Cubs in the fifth inning with dehydration and heat illness.

Moments after his second passed ball helped the Cubs take a 5-0 lead, Rodriguez went to the mound and was visited by trainer Dave Groeschner and then manager Bruce Bochy. After Rodriguez returned to the plate, he finally walked off the field with Groeschner on a humid 80-degree day. Bengie Molina came in to catch for the Giants.

Rodriguez, who was playing in just his 11th game this season, was batting .222 before play Wednesday. The 29-year-old Rodriguez spent 12 seasons in the minors before being promoted to the majors for the first time June 8.
