Brewers activate Scott Linebrink, designate veteran Elmer Dessens

MILWAUKEE (AP) -The Brewers activated newly acquired reliever Scott Linebrink from the bereavement list before Saturday night's game with the Philadelphia Phillies.

To make room on the roster for Linebrink, Milwaukee designated veteran Elmer Dessens for assignment.

The right-handed Linebrink pitched in two games for the Brewers since being acquired in a July 25 trade with the San Diego Padres. He went on the bereavement list Wednesday, when his wife gave birth to their first child.

Linebrink (3-3, 3.64 ERA in 46 games) was available to pitch Saturday.

Dessens, also a righty, was recalled from Triple-A Nashville when Linebrink went on the bereavement list. He is 1-1 with a 6.60 ERA in 12 games for Milwaukee this season.
