Twins bring up Heintz for insurance behind plate; Reyes on DL

BALTIMORE -- The Minnesota Twins recalled catcher Chris Heintz from Triple-A Rochester on Sunday to provide another backup for the injured Joe Mauer.

Mauer injured his left hamstring Saturday night while running the bases in the eighth inning of the Twins' 8-1 win over Baltimore. Mauer, the defending AL batting champion, was replaced by Mike Redmond in the starting lineup Sunday.

In an earlier stint with the Twins in April, Heintz batted .230 in 13 games. He was hitting .275 with one homer and 15 RBI in 48 games for Rochester.

To make room for Heintz, Minnesota placed left-hander Dennys Reyes (left elbow inflammation) on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Aug. 22. Reyes was 2-1 in 50 relief appearances with a 3.99 ERA.
