CINCINNATI -- Andy Phillips agreed to a minor league contract with the Cincinnati Reds, who also claimed outfielder Jeff Fiorentino off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles on Friday.
Phillips batted .292 with two homers and 25 RBI in 61 games for the New York Yankees last season. Promoted from the minors on June 19, he played extensively at first base in place of injured Doug Mientkiewicz.
The Yankees designated Phillips for assignment last month and he became a free agent after refusing an outright assignment to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Fiorentino hit .282 with 15 home runs and 65 RBI with Double-A Bowie last season.
The Reds also agreed to minor league deals with right-hander Jim Brower, infielder Jolbert Cabrera, infielder Andy Green and left-hander Adam Pettyjohn. Along with Phillips, all were invited to spring training as non-roster players.
