Cubs' Soriano leaves game (calf) in top of first inning

CHICAGO -- Cubs left fielder Alfonso Soriano never came to bat Tuesday night against the Cincinnati Reds after straining his right calf in the top of the first, apparently while catching Ken Griffey's inning-ending fly ball.

Mike Fontenot came up to pinch-hit for Soriano, the Cubs' leadoff batter. Soriano often hops as he catches the ball in the outfield and it wasn't immediately clear if that's how he was injured.
