Cox tossed for first time this season, extends ejection record to 136

NEW YORK -- Atlanta manager Bobby Cox extended his record for ejections, getting tossed for the first time this year during the Braves' series opener at the New York Mets on Friday night.

It was the 136th ejection for Cox, who last year surpassed John McGraw. The Society for American Baseball Research said McGraw was tossed 131 times, including 14 as a player.

Cox was ejected in the third inning by plate umpire Tim McClelland. Atlanta was ahead 1-0 and the Mets had the bases loaded with two outs when Jair Jurrjens got ahead 0-2 in the count against David Wright. The next pitch appeared to be over the outside corner, but McClelland called it a ball.

When Jurrjens' 3-2 pitch was just outside and called a ball, forcing in the tying run, the pitcher stretched his arms as if to say: "What's wrong with that?" a move umpires never appreciate.

Cox then came out of the dugout and quickly was ejected.

Jurrjens followed with walks to Carlos Beltran and Brian Church, putting the Mets ahead 3-1.
