ATLANTA -- Atlanta Braves shortstop Yunel Escobar and New York Mets outfielder Ryan Church were held out of the starting lineups Wednesday night after the two were involved in a collision Tuesday night.
Omar Infante was in the Braves' lineup at shortstop. Endy Chavez was listed as the Mets' starter in right field.
Escobar's right knee was heavily wrapped and Church was taken to Piedmont Hospital with a mild concussion following their collision on the final play Tuesday night.
While turning a double play at second base, Escobar's knee struck Church in the head as Church slid toward the shortstop.
Church was face down for several minutes before leaving the field with a mark on his forehead. Escobar needed assistance getting to the dugout.
Church said a CAT scan at the Atlanta hospital was normal. The Mets wanted the tests because Church also suffered a concussion in a spring training game on March 1.
Church, listed by the team as day to day, said he'd be available if needed on Wednesday night.
"I'd do it all over again," Church said of his slide. "I was trying to break the double play up."
Braves manager Bobby Cox said Escobar "is going to be fine."
