MLB roundup: Longoria's walk-off double carries Tampa Bay

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Evan Longoria drove in the winning run with a double in the ninth inning, and the Tampa Bay Rays completed a three-game sweep with a 5-4 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday.

Carlos Pena drew a one-out walk in the ninth off George Sherrill (1-1) and scored on Longoria's double to center. Longoria also caused Baltimore problems on Saturday, hitting two homers and driving six runs in Tampa Bay's 11-4 victory.

Troy Percival (1-0) got the final two outs in the ninth for the win.

Pena hit a two-run shot during a four-run third as Tampa Bay took a 4-1 lead. Like Longoria, Pena has been a problem for the Orioles: In 11 games against Baltimore, he has five homers and 18 RBI, and in 38 games against all other opponents he's hit just five homers and had 11 RBI.

Eric Hinske added a run-scoring single and Dioner Navarro drove in a run with a double in the third for the Rays, who have won 15 of 16 at home. Tampa Bay is 22-9 since April 22, and are 10 games over .500 (30-20) for the first time in franchise history.

Rays starter James Shields allowed four runs and eight hits over eight innings. He struck out three and walked one. Baltimore right-hander Daniel Cabrera gave up four runs, nine hits, six walks and had one strikeout in 5 2/3 innings.

Adam Jones drove in a run in the fifth with a double that cut the Orioles' deficit to 4-2. Melvin Mora, who was 0-for-16 on the current trip, had an RBI single and Aubrey Huff hit a solo homer that tied it at 4 one inning later.

Huff, who started his major league career with the Rays, has three homers and seven RBI this season against his old team.

Ramon Hernandez put the Orioles ahead 1-0 on a single in the second. Full story

Blue Jays 3, Royals 1

TORONTO -- Shannon Stewart drove in the go-ahead run on a fielder's choice, Dustin McGowan won for the first time in four starts and the Toronto Blue Jays beat Kansas City, extending the Royals' losing streak to a season-high seven games.

McGowan (3-4) allowed one run and nine hits in seven innings to win for the first time since May 5 against the White Sox. He matched a season-high by striking out seven and walked none.

Scott Downs worked the eighth and B.J. Ryan pitched the ninth for his 11th save in as many opportunities.

The Blue Jays (27-25) have won 10 of 13 to move two games above .500 for the first time since they were 8-6 on April 15.

Diamondbacks 9, Braves 3

ATLANTA -- Eric Byrnes failed to come through with the bases loaded in the third inning. He didn't waste another chance in the fifth.

Byrnes hit his first career grand slam to knock Tom Glavine out of the game and power the Arizona Diamondbacks past the Atlanta Braves.

Glavine gave up six runs and five hits while walking six in 4 2/3 innings. Braves pitchers issued a season-high 11 walks.

Orlando Hudson hit three doubles for Arizona. Chris Young, who had two hits and a walk, led off the game with his 11th homer.

Diamondbacks starter Micah Owings (6-2) gave up six hits and three runs, two earned, in six innings. He struck out four and walked two. The Braves did not have a hit after the third inning.
