ST. LOUIS -- Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright will be placed on the 15-day disabled list on Tuesday.
The St. Louis ace injured his right middle finger while pitching in Houston on Saturday. He was examined on Monday and found to have a sprain.
It wasn't immediately clear how many starts Wainwright would miss. The Cardinals said the move will be retroactive to Sunday.
Wainwright is 6-3 with a 3.14 ERA this season.
Also Monday, the Cardinals announced that three other players battling injuries -- pitchers Joel Pineiro and Todd Wellemeyer and outfielder Rick Ankiel -- will most likely rejoin the team this week in Cincinnati.

Brewers send Weeks to disabled list
MILWAUKEE -- Brewers second baseman Rickie Weeks was placed on the 15-day disabled list because of a sprained left knee.
Weeks was put on the DL retroactive to June 7 and will stay in Milwaukee to receive treatment. He was injured Friday at Colorado, when Jeff Baker slid into him on a play at second base.
Weeks had initially been listed as day to day before being put on the DL about two hours later. Weeks missed the final two games against the Rockies and returned to Milwaukee to be evaluated by the team physician.
Infielder Hernan Iribarren will be recalled from Triple-A Nashville and join the team on Tuesday in Houston.
Mets' Church heads back to DL
NEW YORK -- Mets outfielder Ryan Church will go on the disabled list Tuesday, still slowed by the effects of a concussion nearly three weeks ago.
Church's most recent examination with a neurologist didn't show dizziness or any major symptoms, the Mets said. But he doesn't feel 100 percent, and the team decided to hold him out longer.
The move to the DL would be made retroactive to Friday, a day after Church last played. The Mets will make it official before opening a series at home against Arizona.
Acquired from Washington in an offseason trade, Church is hitting .300 with 10 home runs and 35 RBI. He is just 2-for-11 with six strikeouts since the injury, and went 0-for-4 and fanned three times Thursday night in San Diego.
Nats' Zimmerman gets shoulder re-examined
WASHINGTON -- Washington Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman began rehabilitation exercises for his injured left shoulder and also had the shoulder re-examined.
"He's better," manager Manny Acta said. "There is no timetable. There hasn't been one since Day One."
Zimmerman was examined by the team physician and will travel to Cincinnati on Tuesday to get another opinion. He's on the 15-day disabled list with a small tear in the shoulder, which he hurt May 18 during a headfirst slide into second base at Baltimore.
He hasn't played since May 25, and the injury is most painful when he tries to swing a bat.
BoSox to work around Celtics' start time
BOSTON -- The Red Sox are moving up the starting times of two games against Baltimore this week so that Boston fans will not have to choose between watching baseball and the Celtics in the NBA Finals.
The games Tuesday and Thursday at Fenway Park are now scheduled to begin one hour earlier at 6:05 p.m. The Boston Celtics are scheduled to play the Lakers in Games 3 and 4 at Los Angeles those days, starting at 9 p.m. ET.
The game Wednesday between the Red Sox and Orioles remains a 7:05 p.m. start.
