Bobby Crosby latest on DL for Oakland Athletics

CHICAGO (AP) -Oakland shortstop Bobby Crosby went on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with a strained left hamstring, giving the Athletics seven players on the DL.

Crosby had started Oakland's first 84 games this season before he was sidelined Thursday. His DL stint is retroactive to July 3, meaning he won't be back until after the All-Star break.

"Get this thing healthy so it doesn't creep up again," Crosby said before Saturday's game against the White Sox. "It should be ready to go after that."

Crosby was batting .260 with four homers and 38 RBIs. Donnie Murphy took Crosby's spot at short Saturday night.

Oakland recalled infielder Gregorio Petit from Triple-A Sacramento. Petit joins the A's for the second time this year. He batted 333 in 10 games during his first stint from May 16 to June 19.

It is the fifth career trip to the DL for Crosby, all since 2005. He has missed 196 games because of injuries over the last four seasons.

Crosby is the third member of the A's to go on the DL in the last four days. Reliever Keith Foulke went on Friday with a sore shoulder and Eric Chavez was added Wednesday, also with a sore shoulder.

The A's have now used the DL 18 times this season, four short of the Oakland record set in 1992 and equaled last season.

In addition to Crosby, Foulke and Chavez, other players on the DL are Chris Denorfia, Joey Devine, Mike Sweeney and Frank Thomas.
