Kinsler extends major league-best hitting streak to 25

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Rangers second baseman Ian Kinsler extended his hitting streak to 25 games, longest in the majors this season, with a leadoff double in the first inning Sunday against the Chicago White Sox.

Kinsler, who will be an AL reserve for the All-Star Game on Tuesday at Yankee Stadium, matched All-Star teammate Michael Young for the second-longest hitting streak in Rangers history. Gabe Kapler hit in 28 straight games in 2000.

Kinsler entered the game as the AL's top hitter at .333, and was hitting .422 during his streak after his 33rd double, which matched for the major league lead.

Young's 25-game hitting streak was in 2005. Young had a 23-game hitting streak earlier this season, and that had been the longest in the majors until Kinsler got to 24 on Saturday night.
