Here we are in one of the most fun weeks of the baseball year, one in which we traffic in nonsensical trade rumors, far-fetched speculation and bogus confirmations/denials.
Why, by the end of the day, somebody will have made the case the Yankees could get Felix Hernandez for a package headlined by Melky Cabrera. And somebody else will believe it, and somebody else will shoot it down, and it will be a hell of a lot more entertaining than whatever it is we're supposed to be doing at work.

We're in the proverbial calm before the storm, as one or two moves or non-moves -- the Diamondbacks adding Mark Teixeira, the Red Sox deciding not to patch their bullpen -- could send teams careening up and down the charts. So, as of 8:32 a.m. ET on Tuesday, July 29, here's where we stand.
