Orioles' Cabrera, Yankees' Ramirez receive suspensions

NEW YORK -- Baltimore's Daniel Cabrera and New York's Edwar Ramirez were suspended and fined by the league for intentionally throwing at batters during a series between the teams earlier this week.

Cabrera was suspended six games and fined an undisclosed amount for throwing a pitch at Alex Rodriguez's head in the bottom of the eighth inning on Tuesday night.

Ramirez, a reliever, was suspended for three games and fined an undisclosed amount for throwing his first pitch over Kevin Millar's head during the top of the seventh inning on Wednesday.

"That's too much," Ramirez said before the Yankees played the Angels on Thursday night. "I didn't do nothing yesterday. One pitch, one mistake ... I didn't try to hit him."

Both pitchers were ejected from the respective games.

Ramirez has appealed the league's decision. Cabrera hasn't yet, and if he doesn't his suspension will begin Friday night against the Seattle Mariners.
