Rockies buy contract of Register from Triple-A Colorado Springs

DENVER -- The Colorado Rockies purchased the contract of Steve Register from Triple-A Colorado Springs on Monday and designated Valerio De Los Santos for assignment.

The 25-year-old Register was 5-2 with 16 saves and a 3.28 ERA in 48 games for the Sky Sox. A 2004 draft choice of the Rockies, the right-handed Register was a Rule 5 draft pick of the New York Mets on Dec. 6, 2007, and spent spring training with the Mets before returning to the Rockies on March 27.

The left-handed De Los Santos was called up from Colorado Springs on July 27 to make his first major league start in more than eight years. The 35-year-old started two games for the Rockies, and was 0-1 with a 5.63 ERA, walking 11 in eight innings in those starts.
