Orioles' Jones to DL with broken foot

BALTIMORE (AP) -Baltimore Orioles center fielder Adam Jones was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a broken left foot.

The move Tuesday was retroactive to Sunday, when Jones woke up unable to walk on the foot after fouling a ball off it Saturday night against Seattle.

In his first full season, the 23-year-old Jones has played solid defense, and his bat has steadily improved. He was hitting .326 in his last 31 games and has raised his batting average from .245 to .279 since June 1.

The Orioles acquired Jones, a 2003 first-round draft pick, in the offseason trade that sent left-hander Erik Bedard to Seattle.

Baltimore called up outfielder Luis Montanez from Double-A Bowie to take Jones' place.
