CHICAGO (AP) - Nick Swisher hit a three-run homer with two outs in the bottom of the 14th inning and the White Sox rallied for four runs off Joel Zumaya to beat Detroit.
Detroit had taken an 8-6 lead in the top of the inning when Placido Polanco hit his second homer of the game, a two-run shot off Matt Thornton.
But Detroit's bullpen woes continued. Zumaya (0-1) gave up a single to Orlando Cabrera and a double to Carlos Quentin. When Tigers' shortstop Edgar Renteria fumbled Jermaine Dye's grounder for an error, Cabrera scored and the lead was down to one.
After Jim Thome struck out for the second out, Swisher homered into the right-center field seats. Swisher had entered the game in the 11th after Paul Konerko had been removed for a pinch-runner in the 10th.
Adam Russell (4-0) worked two-thirds of an inning in the 14th for the win.
Rays 8, Indians 4
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - Evan Longoria, Dioner Navarro and Cliff Floyd homered to help the Rays get the win.
Longoria's two-run drive in Tampa Bay's four-run seventh was his 22nd of the season, setting a team record for a rookie. Longoria hit two long drives that landed in foul territory then took a pitch before connecting against Rafael Betancourt.
Longoria's drive made it 6-3, and Floyd and Navarro added back-to-back shots later in the inning.
Edwin Jackson (8-7) won his third consecutive start, giving up three runs and seven hits in 5 2-3 innings.
Jhonny Peralta hit a two-run homer in the third for Cleveland. Fausto Carmona (5-4) lasted just four innings in his third start since returning from a left hip strain.
Orioles 3, Angels 0
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - Chris Waters held the team with baseball's best record to one hit over eight innings in his major league debut, and Baltimore beat Los Angeles.
The AL West-leading Angels totaled 23 runs in Garland's previous two starts, including an 11-6 win at Camden Yards. But all they could muster against Waters (1-0) was a leadoff single in the second inning by Vladimir Guerrero.
All-Star closer George Sherrill earned his 31st save in 37 chances, allowing a leadoff single in the ninth by Erick Aybar.
Jon Garland (10-7) allowed three runs and nine hits over seven innings, including Luke Scott's 19th homer in the seventh. The right-hander came in 6-0 with a 3.30 ERA in his nine previous starts against AL East clubs this season, and was 4-6 with a 5.08 ERA in 13 starts against other teams. Garland did not record a strikeout or a walk.
The Orioles opened the game with four consecutive hits, including an RBI double by Nick Markakis and a run-scoring single by Melvin Mora.
Blue Jays 4, Athletics 3
TORONTO (AP) - Kevin Mench singled in the winning run with two outs in the ninth inning and the Blue Jays extended the Athletics' season-long losing streak to eight games.
Toronto trailed 3-2 heading into the bottom of the ninth against Oakland closer Huston Street. Alex Rios led off with a single and scored one out later when Rod Barajas doubled over the head of left fielder Ryan Sweeney.
Adam Lind was walked intentionally and Scott Rolen advanced both runners with an infield chopper before Mench lined the first pitch he saw into the left-center field alley, scoring Barajas.
Street (2-5) blew his sixth save of the season.
Jesse Carlson (4-1) got two outs to earn the victory.
