Rockies place reliever Herges on DL with back stiffness
DENVER -- The Colorado Rockies placed reliever Matt Herges on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday because of lower back stiffness.
The move was retroactive to Aug. 18.
The Rockies recalled Ryan Speier from Triple-A Colorado Springs. The right-hander will be available for the Rockies' game against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday night.
Herges, also a right-hander, was 3-4 with an ERA of 5.09 this season.
Speier is 1-1 with a 4.66 ERA in 30 games for Colorado so far in 2008.
