Royals' Triple-A affiliate to continue playing in Omaha until 2010

OMAHA, Neb. -- The Triple-A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals will play in this city for at least two more seasons.

The Omaha Royals and the major league club announced Thursday that they have extended their working agreement through the 2010 season. Where the team will play after that is up in the air.

The city is tearing down Rosenblatt Stadium -- the Omaha Royals' home since 1969 -- and building a 24,000-seat stadium downtown for the NCAA College World Series. The new stadium is scheduled to open for the 2011 series.

Omaha Royals President Alan Stein has expressed concern that the downtown stadium will be too big for what the minor league club needs. The team has been looking into moving to another city or a new stadium in the Omaha suburbs.
