Quinlan said. "You see it on TV sometimes but I've never seen one (do that) live. Sometimes things like that happen.

"If it doesn't hit the lip, it probably ends up in their dugout."

Moseley had to face Ken Griffey Jr. with the bases loaded and gave up a two-run single on an 0-and-1 changeup.

"I tell you what - it seems like that's been my whole year, man" said Moseley, 1-4 with a 7.90 ERA in nine appearances with the Angels this season. "Little things like that can make or break an inning, get you going on a good start or a bad start. That wasn't a bad pitch to Griffey but he was probably sitting on something soft. There's two runs."

Despite the loss, the Angels' magic number to clinch their fourth division title in the past five years shrank to five with the Texas Rangers' loss to the Boston Red Sox.

White Sox starter Mark Buehrle (12-11) allowed just three hits with two walks and seven strikeouts to win for the fourth time in his last five decisions.

Left fielder DeWayne Wise mishandled Chone Figgins' single in the seventh for an error, allowing the Angels' first run to score. Garret Anderson then followed with an RBI single.
