Indians call up Lewis to replace Reyes; Hafner will join team Monday

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Cleveland Indians recalled Scott Lewis from Double-A Akron on Sunday and the left-hander will start in his major league debut Wednesday at Baltimore.

Lewis, who was 6-2 with a 2.33 ERA in 13 starts with the Aeros, takes the spot of Anthony Reyes, who will miss at least one start with a sore right elbow. Reyes left his start Friday at Kansas City after only three innings with elbow stiffness.

Lewis strained a muscle during spring training and did not pitch until June 6. He went a combined 8-4 with a 2.40 ERA with Akron and Triple-A Buffalo.

The 24-year-old Lewis will become the 12th starter and the 26th pitcher used by the Indians this season.

The Indians also announced designated hitter Travis Hafner, on the disabled list with a right shoulder strain, will join the club Monday in Baltimore and be activated during the series against the Orioles.

Hafner hit .217 with four home runs and 22 RBI in 46 games before the injury. He hit .333 with two home runs with seven RBI in two playoff games while rehabbing with Akron.
