HOUSTON -- Astros relief pitchers Geoff Geary and Chris Sampson had surgery, and Sampson will be sidelined for 4-6 months.
Geary, a 32-year-old right-hander, was in Philadelphia for repairs to a right hip adductor injury and a torn abdominal muscle. He is expected to recover in 4-6 weeks and be ready for spring training.
Geary went 2-3 with a career-low 2.53 ERA in 55 appearances he was acquired from Philadelphia.
Sampson, a 30-year-old right-hander, had surgery to repair a lateral extensor tendon in his throwing elbow. He went 6-4 with a 4.22 ERA in a career-high 54 appearances, including 11 starts.
Both operations were Wednesday.
