Brewers exercise Cameron's $10 million option

  •

MILWAUKEE -- Mike Cameron's $10 million option was exercised Monday by the Milwaukee Brewers after he batted .243 with 25 home runs and 70 RBI last season.

The Brewers could have paid a $750,000 buyout to the three-time Gold Glove winner, who made 119 starts in center field and committed only one error.

He received a $1.25 million signing bonus when he joined the Brewers as a free agent last year, had a $5 million base salary and earned an additional $750,000 in performance bonuses based on plate appearances.

The 35-year-old was suspended for the first 25 days of the season for testing positive twice for a banned stimulant. The ban cost him about $790,000 in salary.
