Nationals place Willingham on bereavement list

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Washington Nationals outfielder Josh Willingham has been placed on the bereavement list after a death in his family.

Nationals manager Manny Acta said Willingham's younger brother was killed in a car accident Friday night. Willingham left the team before Saturday's game against Tampa Bay.

Acta held a team meeting to inform players about the accident.

Washington purchased the contract of outfielder Corey Patterson from Triple-A Syracuse. Pitcher Terrell Young (right shoulder) was transferred from the 15- to the 60-day disabled list.
