Tigers designate Sardinha; Figaro to make MLB debut

DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers designated catcher Dane Sardinha for assignment to make room on their roster for right-handed pitcher Alfredo Figaro.

Figaro was recalled from Double-A Erie on Friday to start at home Saturday against the Milwaukee Brewers. He started 11 games for Erie, posting a 5-2 record, 4.10 ERA and 59 strikeouts.

Sardinha batted .097 in 12 games with Detroit.
