Nats make room after trade, option Dukes
MIAMI -- The Washington Nationals sent outfielder Elijah Dukes to Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday, making room to add newly acquired outfielder Nyjer Morgan and left-hander Sean Burnett to the 25-man roster.
Dukes hit .244 with six home runs and 30 RBI this season for Washington, which acquired Morgan and Burnett on Tuesday in a trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Morgan and Burnett were both due to join Washington shortly before the Nationals' game Wednesday afternoon at Florida. Morgan would be available to play, Nationals manager Manny Acta said.
