NL roundup: Dunn's 300th homer rallies Nats past Braves

WASHINGTON -- Atlanta's Tommy Hanson extended his scoreless innings streak to 26 before Adam Dunn's 300th career homer and the Washington Nationals rallied for four eighth-inning runs and a 5-3 victory over the Braves on Saturday.

Hanson departed with a 3-1 lead after seven innings and was in line for his fifth straight victory before the Braves bullpen blew up, halting Atlanta's winning streak at a season-high five.

Mike Gonzalez (3-1) loaded the bases in the eighth on a pinch-hit single by Ronnie Belliard and a pair of walks before Peter Moylan relieved and yielded a two-run, game-tying single to Ryan Zimmerman.

Eric O'Flaherty replaced Moylan and was greeted by Dunn's decisive single up the middle for a 4-3 lead. Josh Willingham followed with an RBI single to left.

Nationals starter John Lannan was the beneficiary of the rally. The left-hander allowed three runs and nine hits in eight innings, ending Washington's losing streak at four games. Lannan (6-5) walked one and struck out one.

Mike MacDougal worked the ninth for his fourth save, escaping a two-on, one-out jam.

Hanson, who was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett on June 7 to make his major league debut, took a no-decision in that game and has yet to lose. He allowed only Nick Johnson's single to center in the first and a second-inning infield hit by Anderson Hernandez over the first six innings. Full story

Reds 5, Cardinals 2

CINCINNATI -- Micah Owings homered and pitched into the seventh inning to help the Cincinnati Reds beat the St. Louis Cardinals.

Joey Votto also homered and drove in two runs and Willy Taveras had three hits to help lift the Reds to their third win in their last four games. Owings (6-8) allowed six hits and two runs in 6 2/3 innings with two walks and six strikeouts.

Reliever Nick Masset got Albert Pujols to ground out with runners on first and second and two outs in the seventh inning, less than 24 hours after Pujols hit a grand-slam in the eighth inning to give the Cardinals a 4-3 lead on their way to a 7-4 win on Friday.

Francisco Cordero pitched a perfect ninth for his 20th save.

Brewers 11, Cubs 2

CHICAGO -- Rookie Casey McGehee had a career high four hits and five RBI to help the Milwaukee Brewers pound Rich Harden and the Chicago Cubs to snap a three-game losing streak.

Mike Cameron and J.J. Hardy also went deep to back a solid effort by Braden Looper (7-4). But McGehee delivered his best performance against the organization that let him go during the offseason.

Claimed off waivers in October, he made the team in spring training and is now batting .331 in 46 games after going 4 for 5. He singled twice and tripled before hitting a two-run homer off Jeff Samardzija.

The Cubs had won three in a row after going 11-14 in June, but this was simply a brutal afternoon all around -- especially for Harden and Alfonso Soriano.

Diamondbacks 11, Rockies 7

DENVER -- Pinch-hitter Chris Young hit a tiebreaking, three-run double in the eighth inning, helping the Arizona Diamondbacks rally for a win over the Colorado Rockies.

Stephen Drew finished a single shy of the cycle and Mark Reynolds hit a solo homer as the Diamondbacks snapped a three-game skid.

Trailing 4-3 heading into the eighth, Arizona scored six times to open up a big lead -- and then had to hang on.

The Diamondbacks tied the game at 4 when Gerardo Parra laced a one-out double into the left-center gap that scored Miguel Montero.
