Phillies' Victorino, Tigers' Inge win All-Star Game online vote

NEW YORK -- Philadelphia Phillies center fielder Shane Victorino and Detroit Tigers third baseman Brandon Inge have been elected by fans to Tuesday's All-Star Game in record-shattering voting exclusively on MLB.com, the official website of Major League Baseball, and the individual club sites.

Victorino received 15.6 million votes and was followed by San Francisco's Pablo Sandoval, Arizona's Mark Reynolds, the Los Angeles Dodgers' Matt Kemp and Washington's Cristian Guzman.

Inge got 11.8 million ballots, finishing ahead of Texas' Ian Kinsler, the Los Angeles Angels' Chone Figgins, Tampa Bays' Carlos Pena and Toronto's Adam Lind.

"To all the fans across the country, mahalo for your support," said Victorino, a native of Hawaii. "I am so honored and appreciative of the passion that everyone has shown to make this dream come true, especially with the number of votes cast. It's just unbelievable."

The Phillies went all-out to get Victorino selected to his first All-Star Game. He went door-to-door in South Philadelphia with Mayor Michael A. Nutter to campaign for votes on Monday. Three fans in their early 20s won a radio station promotion and sat in the press box lounge for 52 straight hours clicking nonstop on their computers for their favorite player. Fans in the ballpark and people listening to the game on radio or watching on television were constantly reminded to "Vote for Shane."

Even Victorino's teammates joined in the campaign while playfully poking fun at the player known as the "Flyin' Hawaiian." After Victorino delivered the game-winning hit in the ninth inning Wednesday night, Chan Ho Park walked out of the bullpen wearing a two-sided billboard that read: "Vote Victorino."

Ok Im a Tigers fan and have been for more years than most of you have been around. I really think Brandon deserved the nod as I have watched him year in and year out getting all the crap the Tigers management has handed him and always comes back and does a great job for them. Just look at the preseason and what were they doing, shopping aro ...(more)

Ian Kinsler didn't make it?!  He's nearly 20/20 allready.  I know he's only batting 250 something but his other numbers are tops among second basemen.  Aaron Hill deserves to be there, I did vote for him several times, but ...(more)

Glad to see him join the other 3 Tigers on the AL squad. I still think that Cabrera was more deserving than Granderson, but I guess first base would have been really crowded if Miggy was on the roster. Inge is hitting .270-ish with 19 home runs (to lead the Tigers) and 54 RBI (to lead the Tigers). Not to mention, the guy is probably a serio ...(more)

Since Beltran's not playing would Victorino been added to the roster anyway?  The NL would need a centerfielder.  Ibaneaz hasn't played in a few weeks either, who knows if he's going to play in the game.  It was exciting here in the Philly area anyway...lot of folks got into talking up Shane and asking others to go to the site and vote for him.

The All Star game should not be chosen by the fans alone, fans should have a say, but the people who write about and work in the biz should have a say as well, because they know who truly deserve it. But it's dominated by Yankees fans and Bo Sox fans EVERY year. It's a joke, and although the MLB's all star game actually means something, I r ...(more)

When most other player went home last season. Brandon Inge Stayed in Detroit the entire off-season working with Tigers batting coach on his swing and stance. Glad to see the hard work payed off and he was then rewarded. Way to Go Brandon!! ...(more)

It's really beyond me how Mark Reynolds (.262 avg 24 hrs 62 rbis and 15 sb) and Ian Kinsler (.252 avg 20hrs 54rbis and 17 sb) don't make the all-star teams. I know thier averages are a lil lower but the rest of the numbers are there. Maybe it's me but I think b ...(more)

Well the East Coast continues to steal the spotlight in sports.  Sandoval is tearing it up and by far having the better year.  Learn to research players fans and start sending the right people to the game that most deserve it.  Obviously some people get snubbed, but look at the stats, no comparison and last I saw Giants are le ...(more)

I know that the league likes to anounce voting records for the allstar final vote, but when i hear stories about people spending 52 hours straight of just voting it makes me think why is the MLB promoting being a looser who sits on his computer all day doing nothing but voting.  Why not one vote per email address and that is it? it would simplify things, but then baseball would have to a ...(more)

yeah,  i'm a phils fan, & voted victorino.  (once) . but ever since interleague play was introduced, it all but took away, the "aura" ?  of this "game" ? ..  it's nothin more, than a popularity contest, wrapped around a meaningless, drawn out, drone home run derby, that fat ass berman, can blow off his lame schtick at !!.. perfect example, as to why this "game" is a joke.&n ...(more)

I didn't really expect inge to make it,  I thought he was the for sure underdog out of the group.  The Bran Torino deal apparently worked out, congrats to both players.

Kung Fu Panda had his car stereo jacked by Victorino while he was filling up for gas on his way to the All-Star Game.  That is the equivalent to what happened in the NL vote. I personally voted around 500 times for Sandoval and am upset to see that he did not make it in on the final vote. Comparing the two players stats, Sandoval was better across the board except for SB which obviously Sando ...(more)

Ian will have plenty of years to go.  Yes he is a great 2nd baseman.  And yes he deserves to be at the All-Star game.  But guess what, he's going to be hard pressed to get votes ahead of the Red Sox or Yankees 2nd Baseman, which I agree is a joke (biggest markets, bigg ...(more)

It definitely should have been Victorino and Kinsler. Inge? Really? I only first heard about him last year.
