Woman sues Cubs over collapsed wall in son's death

CHICAGO -- Attorneys have filed a lawsuit against the Chicago Cubs on behalf of the mother of a 21-year-old man who died after a wall near the team's stadium collapsed on him during a storm in 2007.

The lawsuit filed Friday in Cook County Circuit Court says the Cubs owned the structure near Wrigley Field that fell on Alec Drews.

The suit claims the wall was slated for demolition but the Cubs failed to cordon off the area.

Drews took shelter by the wall after a powerful storm struck. Workers came across the badly injured man while clearing the rubble.

Drews died a week later of head and neck injuries. The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages.

Cubs spokesman Peter Chase says in an e-mail the club hasn't seen the lawsuit and so couldn't comment.
