White Sox's Peavy leaves rehab start with tightness in elbow

NEW YORK -- Jake Peavy is having a hard time getting healthy.

Still waiting to make his first start for the Chicago White Sox, Peavy left his minor league rehab outing after only 3 1/3 innings and 68 pitches Saturday night because he felt tightness in his pitching elbow.

The right-hander, acquired from San Diego at the July 31 trade deadline, was hit on that elbow by a line drive in his previous start for Triple-A Charlotte. Chicago manager Ozzie Guillen said Peavy will join the White Sox by Monday in Minnesota, where he is expected to get X-rays and be evaluated by the club's medical staff.

Chicago was set to complete a series at Yankee Stadium on Sunday before opening a three-game set against the Twins on Monday night.

The 2007 NL Cy Young Award winner, Peavy has been on the disabled list since June 13 with a strained tendon in his right ankle. He has made four rehab starts with Charlotte, going 1-1 with a 2.93 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 15 1/3 innings.

Just save him for 2010 so he does not have to know what it feels like to have Scott Linebrink, Octavio Dotel, and Tony Pena blow games he is ahead, or lose games 1-0 because we can't hit.  It's better for his confidence that he does not have to play for this ...(more)
