Mom of Yankees' Chamberlain faces prison for drugs

LINCOLN, Neb. -- The mother of New York Yankees pitcher Joba Chamberlain faces up to 20 years in prison when she's sentenced next month on a felony drug charge.

Jackie Standley pleaded no contest Monday to an amended charge of delivery of a controlled substance, according to court records. The 44-year-old Standley was arrested in May after selling a gram of methamphetamine to an undercover officer at her Lincoln residence.

Standley originally was charged with a Class II felony, which carries a maximum sentence of 50 years, but the prosecutor reduced the charge to a Class III felony. She'll be sentenced Dec. 16.

Phone calls to a number listed for Standley went unanswered Tuesday.

The Yankees play Game 6 of the World Series against Philadelphia on Wednesday.

CBS has stooped to a new lew with this article.

Before drafting an article, perhaps you should ask yourselves a few questions ...

Did Joba have anything to do with this?

Is Joba's mom a celebrity?

Does this have anything to do with MLB or Baseball, period?

What purpose does it serve to print this type of information?

Eve

Reading this article and the first response that follows brings up the question of who looks worse. I think you could go with the obvious Joba's mom but really? Think about this, it was ONE GRAM of meth. Not one ounce of cocaine, or one ounce of heroine. ONE GRAM of meth and this lady is going to face jailtime not to mention her son having to deal with the media for what will undoubtedly be the to ...(more)

He's a kid who plays baseball and his mom made a mistake. You sir are mean. I would call out your parents for not raising you properly. THEY are the real problem here.  BTW I am a sox fan and don't care much for Joba but there is a human side here not just your petty need for a team to succeed or another to fail in order to feel better about yourself. You probably need a ...(more)

Why would you dare judge this kid based on what his mother does? I would hate anyone to judge me based on what the rest of my family does. I guess we can give a big horrah to the state of Maine for not going completely Anti God.

This is tasteless of CBS to post this article.  Whether during the World Series or any other time.  It's shameless & disgusting.  Are there any real sports reporters left?  All I read on CBS seem to be glorified blogs by low-level hacks.  Which "editor" decided that this story was newsworthy?  Absolutely disgusting.

Joba is on one of the richest teams in baseball with a pretty great salary for a pitcher who hasn't proven himself in MLB. You'd think he'd be able to take care of his mother so she doesn't have to sell drugs, or better yet, youd think he would have the resources to educate her on not selling drugs. Jeez

Why isn't Joba taking care of his Mom?
If she's a meth addict, how could he not know?
Since he's a millionaire, why is she selling small amounts of meth for chump change?
The athletes keep saying they need these outrageous amounts of money to take care of their families, so why isn't he taking care of his?

Why was she giving up so many runs? Her ERA has been dropping in such a pathetic fashion. THis is the real issue here.

I wonder if his Mom is the one responsible for gaving him the ugly genes.  Seriously, people this terrible-looking should never breed.  Joba is not only the "Lord of the Flies" but he is also a sonnofab--ch!

Go Phillies!
