Ramirez exercises $20M extension to stay with Dodgers

LOS ANGELES -- Manny Ramirez is coming back to the Dodgers next season.

The team said Friday that the slugger exercised his $20 million contract option for 2010. His agent Scott Boras informed Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti of the decision.

Ramirez hit .290 with 19 home runs and 63 RBI in 104 regular season games. He missed 50 games while suspended for violating baseball's drug policy.

In the NL Division Series against St. Louis, Ramirez batted .308 with no homers and two RBI. Against Philadelphia in the NL Championship Series, he hit .263 with one homer and two RBI.

Ramirez was traded to the Dodgers from Boston in July 2008.

So would everyone of you smack talkers.  Manny was worth the money in every way.  The first season he didn't cost a dime, the Red Sox paid his salary for the Dodgers, that works out to about 10 million dollars.  What he did to the clubhouse was teach these young talente ...(more)

LA fans would know better than I, but I don't think the Dodgers would have kept Manny for 20 mil?  Certainly looks like they get stuck with a player who's older and whose stats took a dip post suspension.  Am I wrong in this assessment?

Even if it was her time of month, Manny was able to make this decision all on her own,  no agents advice needed.  No team in baseball was going anywhere near this lady at $20 million.  As far as the Dodgers finding a trade partner during the season to take Manny off their hands,  good luck with that.  Of course ...(more)

We all saw this coming, but this one stings. Did the Dodgers really think that Manny Ramirez was going to believe he could net in on another big time contract with another team? Probably not.

However, I don't chalk this one up to Ned Colletti. I blame this one o

The Dodgers were smart to buy Manny. Dumb for overpaying. Smart for Manny to excercies his $20M considering he wont excercise. Old, slow, apathetic, roided Shmanny for 1/6th of the team payroll. OUCH!

We all know Manny left his best years (and most flakey) in Boston.  He's a has-been, and should retire IMO. He'll be luck to crank 20 HR next year.  Have fun watching him lally-gag to first base, LA.  Nobody turns a double into a single quite as well as Manny.

HE DOES WHAT HE WANTS, WHEN HE WANTS AND IS A CANCER TO ANY TEAM HE PLAYS ON.  THEY SHOULD JUST SEND HIM BACK TO THE ISLAND HE CAME FROM WITH HIS UNDESERVED  AND UNEARNED CASH.  HE'S A DISGRACE TO BASEBALL.
