Blue Jays land catcher Buck with $2M deal, add P Broadway
TORONTO -- The Blue Jays added a pair of players who became free agents last weekend, agreeing Wednesday to a $2 million, one-year contract with John Buck and a minor league deal with right-hander Lance Broadway.
The 29-year-old Buck hit .247 with eight homers and 36 RBI in 59 games for the Kansas City Royals last season, although he never developed into the everyday catcher the club had hoped. Buck hit .235 with 70 homers and 259 RBI during his six years with the Royals.
Broadway spent last season with the Chicago White Sox and New York Mets organizations. The 26-year-old was 0-1 with a 5.87 ERA in 16 major league appearances.
Both became free agents when their teams failed to offer them 2010 contracts on Saturday.
