Dodgers sign ex-Angel Anderson to minor league deal

LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Dodgers have signed veteran outfielder Garret Anderson to a minor league contract and invited him to training camp.

If Anderson makes the Dodgers' 40-man roster, he will receive a $550,000, one-year deal which includes performance bonuses. The team announced the move Wednesday night.

The 37-year-old Anderson played 15 seasons with the Los Angeles Angels before spending last year with Atlanta, hitting .268 with 13 home runs.

The San Fernando Valley native is the Angels' career leader in hits, runs and RBI, and played on their only World Series title team in 2002.

Anderson will compete with Brian Giles and Doug Mientkiewicz for a spot as the Dodgers' fifth outfielder and left-handed pinch-hitter.
