After two rehab starts, Rangers activate Cruz from DL
TORONTO -- The Texas Rangers have activated outfielder Nelson Cruz from the 15-day disabled list and optioned first baseman Ryan Garko to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Cruz, who is batting .323 with seven home runs and 17 RBI, has been out since April 27 because of a sore right hamstring. He went 3 for 9 with 3 RBI in a two-game rehab assignment at Triple-A this week. He batted sixth and started in right field as the Rangers opened a three-game series against the Blue Jays on Friday night.
Cruz hit a career-high 33 home runs last year, his first full season. He was the AL leader in slugging percentage (.785) at the time of his injury.
A seven-year veteran who joined Texas this offseason, Garko batted .091 with no homers and three RBI in 15 games.
