M's prospect suspended 50 games after positive drug test

NEW YORK -- A Seattle Marinersminor leaguer has been suspended 50 games after testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs.

Pitcher Jose Mendoza of the team's Venezuelan Summer League squad was penalized Friday. The suspension is effective immediately.

Mendoza tested positive for metabolites of Nandrolone in violation of the minor-league drug program.
