WASHINGTON (AP) -Craig Stammen carried a shutout into the seventh inning and the Washington Nationals roughed up Roy Oswalt in his Philadelphia debut, halting the Phillies' eight-game winning streak with an 8-1 victory Friday night.
Oswalt (6-13), a former 20-game winner acquired from Houston in a four-player trade Thursday, allowed five runs - four earned - and seven hits in six innings. He walked two, struck out four and hit two batters.
It was another tough start against Washington for the right-hander, who lasted only 2 1-3 innings, yielded four runs and was ejected for arguing balls and strikes when he faced the Nationals in Houston on May 31.
Stammen (3-4) went 6 1-3 innings, and gave up one run and five hits. He walked one and struck out five.
Astros 5, Brewers 0
HOUSTON (AP) - J.A. Happ allowed two hits over six innings in his Houston debut, leading the Astros past Milwaukee.
Happ and two minor leaguers came to the Astros on Thursday in a trade that send Roy Oswalt to Philadelphia. Oswalt allowed four earned runs and seven hits in six innings in the Phillies' 8-1 loss at Washington on Friday night.
The Brewers have lost three straight after winning their previous five games. The Astros won their third straight.
Happ, 12-5 as a rookie last season, made only his fourth major league start this year. He was sidelined with a left forearm strain. He had four walks and six strikeouts as the Astros combined on a four-hitter.
Diamondbacks 9, Mets 6
NEW YORK (AP) - Kelly Johnson and Miguel Montero homered in a five-run sixth inning, and Arizona stopped a seven-game losing streak.
Montero also doubled, singled and drove in four runs for the last-place Diamondbacks, who won for the first time since finishing a three-game sweep of the struggling Mets last Wednesday in Arizona.
New York wasted David Wright's two long homers and five RBIs, done in by a dreadful relief outing from left-hander Raul Valdes (2-3) after another shaky start by Mike Pelfrey. Valdes gave up hits to all four batters he faced, turning a one-run lead into a 9-5 deficit in 14 pitches.
Arizona's outburst was aided by Jose Reyes' error at shortstop and it made a winner of Ian Kennedy (6-8), who went six innings and allowed only three hits.
Braves 6, Reds 4, 10 innings
CINCINNATI (AP) - Jason Heyward doubled home two runs with two outs in the 10th inning, rallying Atlanta past Cincinnati.
Atlanta moved 3 1/2 games ahead of second-place Philadelphia in the NL East. The Phillies lost 8-1 to Washington in Roy Oswalt's debut.
Reds closer Francisco Cordero (3-4) walked two batters in the 10th. Heyward worked the count full, then hit a sinking liner that diving left fielder Jonny Gomes couldn't catch, allowing both runners to score.
Jesse Chavez (3-2) escaped a threat in the ninth. Billy Wagner got out of a two-on threat in the 10th, earning his 24th save in 29 chances by fanning Drew Stubbs for the final out.
Rockies 17, Cubs 2
DENVER (AP) - Carlos Gonzalez, Ian Stewart and Dexter Fowler homered and Colorado used a record-setting 12-run eighth inning to rout the Chicago Cubs.
Gonzalez had four hits, two in the eighth when the Rockies set a major league record with 11 straight hits in the inning. The Rockies had 13 hits in the inning, a franchise record.
Fowler and Stewart both hit two-run homers in the eighth as the Rockies piled up a club-high 12 extra base hits in the game.
The Rockies batted around twice in the inning against relievers Sean Marshall, Andrew Cashman and Brian Schlitter. Troy Tulowitzki had two doubles and three RBIs, Melvin Mora had two hits and Brad Hawpe and Chris Iannetta reached base twice in the inning.
Marlins 4, Padres 2
SAN DIEGO (AP) - Cody Ross and Gaby Sanchez homered off Wade LeBlanc and Florida had just five hits in beating NL West-leading San Diego in Miguel Tejada's first game with the Padres.
Tejada, acquired Thursday from the Baltimore Orioles, started at shortstop for the first time this season and went 0 for 3 with a walk.
LeBlanc has allowed a team-high 16 homers, 11 in his last seven starts.
Ross homered into the second deck in left-center with two outs in the fourth, his 10th, to give the Marlins a 3-1 lead. Sanchez homered to left with one out in the sixth, his 12th, to make it 4-1.
The Marlins got their first two runs in the third on Hanley Ramirez's sacrifice fly and Logan Morrison's RBI single.
Cardinals 1, Pirates 0, 10 innings
ST. LOUIS (AP) - Brendan Ryan's broken-bat infield hit in the 10th inning drove in the game's lone run to lead St. Louis.
Chris Carpenter allowed five hits over eight innings for the Cardinals, who have won eight of nine at home and regained first place in the NL Central by a half-game over Cincinnati. St. Louis is 35-16 at home and rebounded after a 2-5 trip.
Ryan Ludwick opened the 10th with a double off Javier Lopez (2-2), his first pinch-hit in nine at-bats this season, and advanced on a sacrifice. The infield was in for Ryan's grounder and second baseman Neil Walker knocked it down with a lunge to his left but then bobbled the ball as Ludwick, who had hesitated, sprinted for home.
Giants 6, Dodgers 5
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Aubrey Huff hit a go-ahead two-run double in the third inning and added a solo homer, and San Francisco held off a late rally.
Tim Lincecum (11-4) scattered seven hits and two runs over seven innings to win for the first time since July 15 and pull the Giants within 2 1/2 games of first-place San Diego in the NL West.
The Dodgers, seeing their playoff hopes dimming, were reportedly talking with the Chicago Cubs about the possibility of acquiring left-hander Ted Lilly to bolster their pitching staff.
Huff, who passed the 1,500-hit mark earlier this week, singled and scored on Pat Burrell's line drive double down the third base line in the sixth when the Giants chased Dodgers starter Carlos Monasterios (3-3).
