Astros agree to contracts with three pitchers wire reports

HOUSTON -- The Houston Astros have agreed to one-year deals with three pitchers.

The team agreed to deals with left-hander Sergio Escalona ($417,000) and right-handers Arcenio Leon ($414,000) and Henry Villar ($416,500).

Escalona, who was traded to Houston from Philadelphia in January, went 4-8 with a 3.81 ERA and 10 saves in 50 appearances for Double-A Reading last season.

Leon was 2-2 with a 2.33 ERA and four saves in 26 appearances for Class-A Lexington last season. He also had 18 appearances at Double-A Corpus Christi and went 0-2 with a 7.83 ERA.

The 23-year-old Villar had a 4.50 ERA in eight appearances for the Astros last season. Before he was called up, he was 4-7 with a 4.15 ERA and five saves in 36 appearances for Corpus Christi.
