Reds put outfielder Lewis, four pitchers on disabled list
CINCINNATI -- The Reds are opening the season with five players on the disabled list for the first time since 2007.
The Reds made several anticipated moves on Wednesday to get down to the 25-man roster limit, putting four pitchers and outfielder Fred Lewis on the 15-day disabled list. All were injured during spring training.
Starters Johnny Cueto and Homer Bailey are on throwing programs because of shoulder issues and are expected back in April. Relievers Jose Arredondo and Jared Burton have sore pitching shoulders. Lewis strained muscles in his right side.
Right-hander Jordan Smith will take Burton's spot in the bullpen.
