Player Rankings: Top 20-somethings worthy of franchise status

April 19 (Stats continue to update)

The other night, some friends and I engaged in spirited debate about the players around whom we'd build a team, assuming MLB owners came to their senses and handed us the GM gigs we so richly deserve. The argument quickly degenerated into name-calling ("Pujols as your franchise cornerstone? So your team is planning to play in the great-grandpa league?," "Mauer? I hope you're also signing Dr. Oz," etc.). Eventually the authorities were called in to calm the situation.

Power Rankings

In the end, all we could agree upon is that a true franchise pillar had to be young (25 tops) and play a position other than first base (which is where our imaginary teams would stash the oldie-olds). So, to satisfy the terms of the plea deal, here are the top 25-and-under franchise cornerstones, 12 on the hitting side and 12 on the pitching side.

Separately, big props to the Hon. Ellen Michael for her leniency.
