CBSSports.com wire reports

SAN DIEGO -- The Padres have placed shortstop Jason Bartlett on the paternity leave list and recalled infielder Everth Cabrera from Triple-A Tucson.

The move was announced Sunday.

Bartlett is hitting .244 with one homer, 21 RBI and 20 stolen bases in 84 games. He and his wife, Kelly, are expecting their second child.

Cabrera was San Diego's starting shortstop for 101 games as a rookie in 2009, but this is his first stint with the team this season. He was batting .305 with 41 runs scored, two homers and 13 RBI in 45 games at Tucson.

Left-hander Joe Thatcher, on the disabled list all season, is set to start a rehab assignment with Class-A Lake Elsinore. Thatcher, who underwent exploratory surgery on his pitching shoulder May 2, was 1-0 with a 1.29 ERA in 65 games last year.
