The Giants did get a little bit of bright news on Friday, despite a 4-2 loss to the Brewers.
Buster Posey got the screws taken out of his left ankle. The screws were inserted to reattach torn ligaments after the devastating May 25 collision at home plate with Florida's Scott Cousins that ended the catcher's season.
Posey will not be able to go to the White House with the rest of the Giants on Monday, but having the screws removed is seen as a good step.
Manager Bruce Bochy told reporters that Posey cannot put weight on the leg and he will not be allowed to for weeks.
Posey is hoping to be able to return to playing by spring training. He recently told Showtime that he would not want one of his children (his wife is expecting twins) to become a catcher, but he told the San Jose Mercury News this week that he is definitely motivated to get back with the Giants -- as a catcher.
