Butler's power surge continues

The Sports Xchange

DH Billy Butler says he is not trying to hit the ball out of the ballpark.

Nonetheless, Butler hit a pair of home runs Friday in the Royals' 12-0 rout of the Indians and has homered in four consecutive games. Butler went 115 at-bats without a home run before this recent homer splurge -- six home runs in the past eight games. Mike Sweeney holds the club record with home runs in five consecutive games, June 25-29, 2002. Jose Guillen homered in four games from April 11-14, 2010.

Butler homered in the first and eight innings for his fifth multi-homer game. His previous two-homer game was Sept. 25, 2009. He had three two-homer games in 2009 and one in 2008.

Manager Ned Yost said he would rather have Butler hit in the .270s with 25 home runs and 120 RBIs than hitting .300 sans the run production.

Butler, who went 9-for-19 with eight RBIs and three home runs in the four-game series at Boston, has six home runs and 13 RBIs in his past eight games. That's a complete contrast to the first 96 games, when he had six home runs and drove in 39 runs.
