Braves lose Hanson (shoulder) to DL, activate McCann wire reports

ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Braves have placed right-hander Tommy Hanson on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Aug. 7, with right shoulder tendinitis.

The team activated catcher Brian McCann from the disabled list. McCann, returning from a strained left oblique, is starting in Sunday's game against the Chicago Cubs.

The Braves also activated right-hander Scott Linebrink (lower back strain) from the 15-day disabled list and optioned right-hander Anthony Varvaro to Triple-A Gwinnett.

Hanson allowed seven runs in 3 1/3 innings in an 11-7 loss at the New York Mets on Aug. 6. An MRI on his shoulder showed no structural damage.

Jair Jurrjens (right knee strain) is eligible to come off the disabled list Tuesday, when the Braves will need a starter to replace Hanson.
