Wilson's elbow problem doesn't appear to be serious

The Sports Xchange

Another day, another injury.

Three-time All-Star Brian Wilson was unavailable for duty Wednesday because of elbow inflammation, which actually was a relief for the Giants considering he went to see Dr. James Andrews, the famed orthopedic surgeon, in Florida. That's the same doctor who performed Tommy John surgery on Wilson when the pitcher was at LSU.

But the diagnosis was refreshing.

Manager Bruce Bochy said Wilson will miss two or three days, meaning he could be available at some time for this weekend's series in Houston.

"It's good news for us," Bochy said.

Bochy blew Monday's game, coughing up three runs in the ninth, and Bochy said Wilson felt something in the elbow on a pitch he threw.

No closer was needed Wednesday -- but almost. The Giants gave up four in the ninth, turning a 7-1 lead into a 7-5 win.
