Mets put starter Niese on DL, call up catcher Nickeas
PHILADELPHIA -- The New York Mets have placed starter Jonathon Niese on the disabled list and called up catcher Mike Nickeas.
Niese (11-11) has been bothered by a ribcage injury. His start was pushed back a day until Tuesday night and he aggravated it further during a 9-4 loss in which he allowed eight runs in four-plus innings.
The move was made before Wednesday afternoon's game at Philadelphia.
The Mets have not announced who will take Niese's spot in the rotation.
